400 km covered -1100 km left to go…

Photographer: Wouter Kingma

The team have now left Mugshin, but we wanted to give you an update on their time there.  Our friend Sheikh Khalid from Oman visited the team again and the guys were welcomed by a huge delegation of Omani locals and Omani Sheikhs.

Following the feast given in their honour they manged to relax a little and even have a shower…the first one since they left Salalah. The team  are very tired, but all in good spirits.

Up to Mugshin the terrain has been difficult, sometimes  they have had to trudge through deep mud and a number of times the film crew have not been able to follow the same route.  The expedition team are now pushing hard, often trekking with the camels for over 11 hours per days.

What now lies ahead of the team is the big, wide open Empty Quarter – this will be different to what they’ve encountered so far. They won’t be seeing people and small villages .  From this point on they are on their own and will find it very solitary.

We are often asked about their food and showering arrangements!  Their diet is a tradition diet of ‘gerf’ – a bread dough mixed with oil and dates. Meat is only coming from the banquets and food they’ve been offered along the way. Adrian has lost weight.  Showering is not usually an option on this trip..

  1. I’m most curious about the drudging through deep mud Adrian…name the colour of the field my friend! I’m so eager to hear about what you are learning – hope you are journalling. Love you. Leslie

  2. Adrian, I am glad to hear that you are getting over your early mishap. Your initial experiences and descriptions take me back to my times in the Sinai 40 years ago — no water, just beautiful dunes and stark mountains…and vicious, blinding sand storms which I wish you will manage to avoid! And what a wonderful adventure! With love, ilan

  3. Good luck for the empty quarter – I know it well from the UAE Desert Challenge and it’s very daunting – huge dunes, and mile upon mile of sand. Good luck all, and hopefully you will come out the outer side together.

  4. With you all the way Adrian – exciting times – just back from Everest Bae Camp – now following your adventure and I have a mate that is sailing a leg of the Clipper Round the World – I am sure you and your team need no motivation, but we’re rooting for you all just the same
    Cheers mate

    Fred

  5. Looks like your having an amazing time trekking through the desert !!

Would love to know when you will be back on Abu Dhabi soil!

How is life coping with the arabian desert heat?

Wishing you the best of luck for the rest of your trip

    Bethany
